Generations from Exile Tribe, stylized as GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE, formerly known as Generations, is a seven-member Japanese boy band signed to the Avex Group label Rhythm Zone.[1] The group belongs to the talent agency LDH, and is part of the collective 'Exile Tribe', related to Exile.[2] Generations debuted on 21 November 2012.

History[edit]
2011-2012: Formation and Pre-debut[edit]
In April 2011, Hiro of Exile began forming Generations. The candidate members started their activities in the summer of 2011, with a major debut as their goal.[3] In April 2012, Alan Shirahama, Ryota Katayose, Ryuto Kazuhara, Hayato Komori, Reo Sano, and Mandy Sekiguchi were announced to the public as official members.
On 11 September 2012, it was announced that Yuta Nakatsuka, who had been a support member for the group, would be added as an official member. Generations then made their major debut on 21 November, with the single 'Brave It Out', which was used as theme song for the NTV drama Sugarless starring Shirahama.[4]
2013-2014: First Album: Generations[edit]
In January 2013, the group changed their name from 'Generations' to 'GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE'. They released their self-titled first original studio album in November the same year, and achieved first place on the Oricon charts for the first time, selling approximately 49,000 copies in its initial week of release.[5]
In January 2014, Hiro appointed Shirahama to be the leader of the group. On 27 April, Shirahama and Sekiguchi were two of five people who passed the final audition to join Exile as performers, making them currently members of both Exile and Generations.[6] All members of Generations auditioned.
On 3 September 2014, the group released their sixth single 'Always with you' which was used as a theme song for the Japanese drama Jūei-San, Jiken Desu yo aired on NTV and YTV.[7]
2015: GENERATION EX, First World Tour, and All For You[edit]
In November 2014, Generations announced they would release a new album in February 2015, followed by a nationwide tour as well as a world tour.[8] The world tour was scheduled to take place in June, with stops in Paris, London, Los Angeles, New York, Taipei, and Hong Kong.[9]
The group released their second album, GENERATION EX, on 18 February 2015. The album reached the #1 position on the Oricon weekly chart, selling more than 64,000 copies in its first week.
In August, they released their ninth single, 'Hard Knock Days', which was chosen as the 18th opening for Fuji TV's popular anime 'One Piece'.[10]
On 16 September, the group released their tenth single 'ALL FOR YOU', which was used as theme song for the movie Girl's Step, starring E-girls member Ishii Anna. The single reached the #1 position on both the daily and weekly Oricon charts, making this GENERATIONS' first #1 single.
2016-2017: SPEEDSTER, Second World Tour and Fourth studio album[edit]
The group released their eleventh single 'AGEHA' on 27 January 2016 which won best choreography[11] at 2016 MTV Video Music Awards Japan and on 2 March their third album SPEEDSTER[12] which peaked at #1 on the Oricon weekly chart selling more than 71,000 copies on its first week.
On 17 May 2017 they went on their Second world tour 'GENERATIONS 2017 World Tour ~SPEEDSTER~' which was scheduled to take place in Taipei, Taiwan, Macau, Los Angeles, New York, London and as a last stop Paris on June 2th and 4th. However, due to the Manchester terror attack, European live performances got cancelled.[13]
On 5 July 2017, they released their fourth studio album titled 'Namida o Nagasenai Pierrot wa Taiyou mo Tsuki mo nai Sora o Miageta', which makes reference to the album's singles 'Namida', Pierrot' and 'Taiyou mo Tsuki mo' and to the song 'Sora' which was used as a theme song for the movie 'Ani ni Aisaresugite Komattemasu' starring Katayose and was also used to promote the album, this later peaked at #2 on the Oricon weekly chart selling more than 94,000 copies in its first week making it their best selling album before the release of their first best album.
On 25 October 2017,they released their fifteenth single 'Big City Rodeo' which peaked at #2 on Oricon and Billiboard Japan Hot 100 with estimated physical sales of 117,842 and digital sales of 3271.
2018: Best Album, China tour and First Dome tour[edit]
On the first of January, Generations released their first best album titled BEST GENERATION, which include all singles and music videos since their debut up to 'BIG CITY RODEO' plus their new song 'ALRIGHT! ALRIGHT!', the album was released in two editions: the Japanese edition and the international edition and peaked at #2 on the Oricon weekly chart selling more than 100,000 copies on its first week.
In March 2018, they held their China tour 'GENERATIONS CHINA TOUR 2018 ~MAD CYCLONE ~” which took place in Shenzen, Beijing and Shanghai.[14]
The group released their sixteenth single 'F.L.Y. BOYS F.L.Y. GIRLS' on 13 June 2018 in which one of the B-sides 'Mata, Ashita' (See you, Tomorrow) was used as a theme song for drama Love Rerun starring actress Nakamura Anne, the song peaked at number 31 on Billboard Japan Hot 100[15].
In May 2018, Generations made one big achievement as they held their first Dome tour 'GENERATIONS LIVE TOUR 2018' UNITED JOURNEY ' from May 12 to August 5 in 4 Domes: Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka and in Tokyo.
2019-Present: Shounen Chronicle[edit]
On May 26, Generations announced on a live episode of their internet TV show 'Generations High School TV' that they will be releasing one single per month for 3 consecutive months starting July.The first single to be released is titled “Brand New Story” which was used as the theme song of the anime movie “Kimi to, Nami ni Noretara” where Katayose voiced as the main character.The single will be out on July 17th.
On the same episode, the group has announced to be holding their first five dome tour titled “GENERATIONS LIVE TOUR 2019 Shounen Chronicle”, the tour will kick off on August 31st in Sapporo Dome and ends on December 15th in Fukuoka Yafuoku Dome.
